A Poem from Janet Cannon's  Poetry Room at IsleWrite.com

fifth grade

running into the house
after school urgently

thinking faster than
she's speaking faster

faster than her lip muscles
can move like her faster

talking button is stuck
on fast forward blurting

mum the coach won't
let us play basketball

says we-girls have to be
cheerleaders and i won't

do it i want to play it's
no fun to cheer and we

have to wear real short
skirts and it's not fair

besides i'm taller than all
the boys on the team
