A Poem from Janet Cannon's  Poetry Room at IsleWrite.com

january

winter ice gray skies
winter ice gray skies

snow deeper than patience
icicles longer than the

hope of an end to it slippery
roads begging for accidents

fence posts with fractured
limbs frozen cars stiff with

stubbornness water pipes
burst from the tension

shoveling scraping brushing
shoveling scraping brushing

the countryside's stuffed
with snow like an ignored

laundry basket high heating
bills wail firewood's buried

in the white grave sun's
so depressed it won't come

out anymore night dreams of
tropical islands day has had a

nervous breakdown it's in an
asylum waiting for the release

of spring arrested by the cold
jailed for its warm thoughts
