A Poem from Janet Cannon's  Poetry Room at IsleWrite.com

warning

beware of the blue-eyed
gypsy who lives with
an economic mandate on
the edge of hell's kitchen

who for words walks to
waitressing for rent where
oppression is deeper than
her varicose veins chanting

oh lord won't you buy
me a mercedes benz?

oh lord won't you buy
me a mercedes benz?

beware of the blue-eyed
gypsy who has a weakness
for jews she's a slave to
autonomy the one-way
tunnel to estrangement

alone she's okay but
single seems impossible

with bukowski on her lap
stein in her head whitman
on call dickinson between
her toes beware this is
a warning you can't wind

her up operate on batteries
or plug her in she'll tilt
